I can't believe it's already Friday.  It's been a busy week.  I started the week off with finishing up the final touches on my Interactive Alphabet Notebook.  This has been a huge hit with my son and has been successful in helping him learn his alphabet.  He's been struggling.  Be sure to read this post about the notebook.  It goes into quite a bit of detail of what's included.
This past weekend I started some of my seeds.  You can't see too well in the picture, but there's finally some baby onion sprouts popping up. I try to grow just about everything we plant from seeds.
I created five new sets of clipart this week!  That's right five!  Actually, six, but I haven't uploaded my newest set, another set of kids, yet.  Maybe today.  The cute Valentine Love Bugs are a freebie.  If you download please be sure to leave some feedback.

If you want to know what sets I've created during the week please follow my shop or Facebook.  That's where I'll post the new sets when they're added to my shops.  I'm only going to be doing a weekly blog post of the new sets.

I spent quite a while making these fun alphabet mazes.  These were a huge hit!  There is a faint picture under the maze of that starts with the letter as well as the picture on the side.  There is one maze for every letter of the alphabet in this set.  Each maze features both uppercase and lowercase letters.

Be sure to ready my blog post on these mazes.  As well as the alphabet mazes I've noted several other resources that help with learning the alphabet.  There's also a freebie in the post.
Yesterday we spent the afternoon at the library.  I love using the public library.  My son loves it so much and it's really fun to see the different books, movies, and puppets he wants to check out ever time.

Happy Friday!

Alphabet Mazes and Other Activites for Practicing the Alphabet

Thursday, January 15, 2015
We've been busily working on the alphabet at our house. I've been trying everything I can to help my youngest learn his alphabet as quickly as possible. The great thing is that I see it's actually working! Yeah!!!

This week we've been focusing on two letters so far, tomorrow he'll probably learn a new letter.  To help reinforce his letters I created some alphabet mazes.  He loves these!  They're great for identifying both the uppercase and lowercase letters.

Students could use the mazes in a variety of ways.  They could color the letters, use a dauber, and highlight.  You could also have them circle the uppercase letters and underline the lowercase letters.  These are just a few of my ideas, but I'm sure you would have others.

Also, to reinforce his letters he's been working on his interactive alphabet notebook.  He loves making this because it involves coloring, cutting and gluing.  Three of his favorite things.

I've also been having him work on his alphabet dauber sheets and his alphabet letter sorting.  He loves all of these activities.  Incorporating a variety has really been helping.

In addition to all of these we practice the alphabet chart everyday.  We say the letter name, the sound, the picture, and a motion for each letter.  He's finally getting it too!  Now I can ask him what is this letter?  He'll tell me about half of them, but he knows the motions (such as touching the wrist for t=time) for most of them.

I love that the combination of activities above is working so quickly.  I'm seeing progress and so is he.  He's finally able to read some very simple books and he's proud and asks, "am I mastering this one?"  I love it!

Interactive Alphabet Journal

Saturday, January 10, 2015
If you read my post about guided reading at home this week then you know I've been looking for ways to help my son learn his letters and sounds.  I know I've created the perfect thing too.  An interactive alphabet notebook!

I know there are a few interactive notebooks out there.  I wanted to create one that had components that were new and fresh ideas, but still provided practice in a fun and engaging way.  Well, we have been loving this notebook!

There are eleven different activities in these interactive notebooks for every letter of the alphabet.  That includes four pages each.  What is wonderful is it's entirely up to you whether you use all four or not.  You can mix and match to meet the individual students needs.  For example, if I know my son knows how to write a certain letter then I don't need him to complete the letter tracing and writing portion.  Once he masters skills we'll just use the activities he hasn't mastered yet.  This way the journal can be tailored to his needs as his learning progresses.

There are four different covers to choose from.  You can choose a generic cover or one for individual boys and girls. I love that these interactive pages also give students lots of practice with cutting, gluing, coloring, writing, tracing, and drawing.

When I created this we got to work right away and we loved it!  He asks to do this now.  My older son thinks it is so cool (his words).  He's been begging me to make him some kind of interactive notebook.  Now I need to think of what he needs more help with (he's a smarty-pants and usually doesn't need extra help).  I would highly recommend an interactive notebook for struggling students, the beginning of the year, learning the alphabet, and phonemic awareness.

We are hooked and hopefully you will be too!  If you download the preview you'll get two free pages for letter A.
